Newark, New Jersey
Spring 2005 - 2nd Year
Professors Svetz+Moore

Masonry was the primary focus for this semester's work, as this project was located in the Ironbound district of Newark, NJ, which consists of many old brick buildings. We were asked to create a community/cultural center to be located on Ferry Street, which is the main road through the district, and one of the busiest. Many festivals are held there, so this building acts as a social gathering place, whether it is for a party, classes, or additional festival space. The concept behind this project is shifting spaces which create many types of gathering spaces--small and large, indoor and outdoor.
