For this project, we were asked to design a new media union building to be located somewhere on the NJIT campus. We were free to program the building ourselves, as long as it somehow related to media and technology. I chose to create a long building that takes over a boring parking lot and creates a new presence for the school on the West end of the campus, where many commuters arrive via the NJ Transit light rail station adjacent to the campus. The building shifts vertically and horizontally, creating a dynamic streetfront presence. Different programmatic elements create different shifts. The program includes spaces for a new animation, photography, and computer design school within NJIT. The building extends existing campus paths through its raised landscape, directing pedestrians away from the busy street and onto the continued campus landscape.
